Natalie + Rob's Grand Rapids Elopement

Natalie and Rob are dear friends of mine, and so when we began their wedding planning journey in the later months of 2019, we started the journey STRONG. Every vendor was booked, lots of plans were made and plenty of excitement and anticipation was built.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit I assured them for a few months that there was no way this could possibly affect their wedding. As time pressed on, though, we quickly realized that a change of plans was in order. The result was an intimate and fun ceremony and open-house style gathering that, in Natalie’s words, “they’ll never forget.”

When considering a smaller venue for this 40-person elopement, the cocktail bar (and adjoining wine bar) that they met at - and that Rob now manages - was the obvious choice. Because the bars have an eclectic aesthetic (perfect for this fun-loving couple!) we brought in only essential decor, including modern black signage, floral, photos of them for each bar, and a custom painting of Rob’s favorite cocktail, gifted to the couple by their friends.

Everything about this day was designed to reflect all things Natalie and Rob, including the menu. Chef Daren Palacios of Shaker & Swine (another friend of the couple’s) created a four-course dinner, arriving in waves throughout the afternoon and evening, featuring Natalie and Rob’s favorite dishes.

It was an absolute honor to be part of my friend's special day in this way, and I can’t wait for the second installment of their wedding festivities, set to take place in May of 2022 in Detroit.

My fiancé and I hands down could not plan our wedding without Megan Westers & Shoreline Event Design. She is ALWAYS thinking a step ahead, knows all of the right questions to ask, so organized and detail-oriented, plus helps to limit/manage my freak outs especially while planning during a pandemic lol. I couldn’t recommend her more, or say better things, to ALL couples, even outside of Michigan!!
