The Shoreline Events Team

shoreline event design (sed) was founded in 2019 by founder & creative director megan westers, a michigan native with a marketing background and deep-rooted passion for hospitality.

Megan Westers

Founder + Creative Director

After spending her first few years in the corporate marketing world, Megan decided to pursue her love for hospitality by helping her in-laws renovate, market, and operate a now successful wedding venue in Rives Junction, MI — Westers Family Winery (Formerly known as Black Barn Wedding Venue). With her growing expertise in event planning, Megan took this foundation and dreamed up her own private wedding planning and design company. Inspired by the beauty of the Lake Michigan Shoreline, SED was born.

Since its inception, SED has experienced rapid growth, expanding from a one-woman operation to a team of eight and serving clients on a local, regional, and national level. Today, Megan & the SED team are known as one of Michigan’s premier full-service event planning & coordination teams for weddings, corporate events, and beyond.

When she’s not planning events, she enjoys baking, finding the next place to enjoy a glass of wine or a good meal and almost any outdoor activity. Aside from spending time with her family: husband Jordan and two sons Lincoln and Oliver.

Sarah Bucklin

LEAD COORDINATOR

Sarah joined SED in the fall of 2022. Sarah is a graduate of Michigan State University's School of Hospitality Business. She has many years of experience from managing corporate and government events at a conference center, weddings and events at a non-profit exotic venue on the University campus, day-of coordination, and experience working for a Luxury Boutique Hotel in Northern Michigan. Sarah finds joy and immense fulfillment in providing magical moments for all of whom she works with, and enjoys continuously challenging herself to grow for the benefit of her personal growth, her team, and her clients & couples. Sarah looks forward to creating relationships with her clients & couples, and ensuring that their day is stress-free, smooth sailing, and enjoyable for the couple, the guests, and vendors alike.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends & family, her dog Milo. She also loves backcountry hiking, SCUBA diving whenever and wherever she can, and designing spaces in her friends' and families' homes and of course her own!

Chloe Savitch

LEAD COORDINATOR/administrative & Marketing Assistant

Chloe comes from the performing arts industry as a Stage Manager. She is a graduate of Union College in Schenectady, New York with a degree in Psychology and Theater. Chloe has lived in New York her whole life and moved to Michigan to join the SED family. She has over 5 years’ experience managing live entertainment and events where her main responsibilities were to plan, organize, and make sure the show goes on smoothly, so transitioning from performing arts to weddings is natural for her.

As both a lead coordinator and administrative/marketing assistant for Shoreline, Chloe knows the ins and outs of the company. She finds excitement in making her clients’ wedding dreams come true, focusing on small details, and getting to know the couples to make their day unique and tailored just to them. Her goal is for her clients’ day to be stress-free, relaxing, and a whole lot of fun! She will take care of the rest.

In her free time Chloe loves to keep herself connected to the performing arts by going to see local plays, concerts, and other live entertainment. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and looks forward to winding down in the evening cuddling with her dog, Lucy!

Dana Hicks

floral operations & lead designer

This year will be Dana’s sixth season of growing and designing flowers for weddings and events and her first year as Shoreline Event Design’s lead designer and overseeing the company’s floral operations.

Dana is a nature inspired farmer-florist and she designs with much of what she grows. At her floral farm that she owns, Black Dog Flower Co., she grows beautiful flowers in a way that protects our ecosystem and pollinators - she loves our bees and butterflies so much! Her preferred design style is lush and garden-inspired and she feels so lucky to design with some of the most incredible local blooms and supplements when needed from other local, national, and global suppliers to ensure she can design for events year-round. She loves texture, movement, the unique and funky stuff, and she definitely doesn’t shy away from color.

She is always honored to be your florist and feels so lucky to have her flowers and designs be a small and beautiful part of your best day ever.

Kaila Piepkow

LEAD stationary & graphics Designer

Kaila is your go-to design professional, creative and hype gal; also the newest addition to Shoreline Event Design Team as the in-house stationery designer! She is the Founder of Dox Design, a bright and vibrant small creative team that created and launched over 200 brands and rebrands for small businesses (which she recently sold!)! With a deep love for print design, fun patterns and color, she is SO excited to flex her creative muscles to create one-of-a-kind print design for your special day.

Since departing from her full time gig of running a design agency for the past 6 years, she has decided to focus her creative passions on projects that are meaningful and tell a story, and she feels that the wedding space is the perfect fit to do that. She crafts your invitations and day-of signage and stationery while also incorporating details of what makes you special. Her clean, fun and unexpected design style will be the icing on the figurative (or maybe literal?) cake to make your wedding day memorable.
